Abstract

Bonnie Leung is a nurse practitioner oncologist at BC Canada in Vancouver, where she supports patients and families affected by lung cancer and head and neck cancers. She is also a PhD student at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing, preparing her thesis work on cancer care experiences of racialized older adults with cancer. Currently, she is a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Health Systems Impact Fellow, conducting a project on examining disparate outcomes of immigrants with cancer-related spinal cord injuries. Her research interests include psycho-oncology, palliative and end-of-life care, health disparities of immigrants, and geriatric oncology.

In this lecture, she will present the results of her review on treatment decision-making among culturally and linguistically diverse older adults with cancer. Alongside this, she will discuss why it is important to study culturally and linguistically diverse older people with cancer whilst giving an overview of the role of a nurse clinician scientist in Canada.
