Parkinson’s disease
Leveraging the expertise gained through the FNR-funded National Centre of Excellence in Research on Parkinson’s Disease (NCER-PD), and in collaboration with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), LIH investigates the role of the immune system in the pathogenesis and progression of neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s Disease.
activities
The complexity of immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system, like Parkinson’s Disease (PD), their challenging management and increasing incidence, emphasise the importance of a gaining deeper understanding of the roles of the immune system and of the brain-body axis in the genesis of such pathologies.
Ongoing projects in this respect include the comparison of the peripheral immune systems of PD patients and healthy controls and the elucidation of a correlation with disease development.
