Research Assistant / Epidemiologist


We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant with a medical or health sciences background to support activities related to the National Cancer Registry (RNC) operations and prevention research. The role involves data collection, analysis, and interpretation to strengthen cancer surveillance and prevention research. 

As a member of EPICAN Team, the successful candidate will engage in epidemiology research, developing prevention-focused research, and supporting the activities of the RNC to ensure the quality and timeliness of RNC data.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the National Cancer Registry, support activities on ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with international standards (e.g., IARC, WHO).
  • Conduct literature reviews and assist in preparing scientific reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Support epidemiological research by performing data analyses to identify trends in cancer incidence, mortality, and survival.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement cancer prevention research studies.
  • Facilitate quality control and data validation processes within the cancer registry.
  • Contribute to public health initiatives aimed at improving early detection and prevention of cancer.
  • Participate in capacity-building activities such as training healthcare professionals in cancer data collection and reporting.
  • Assist in preparing grant proposals, project reports, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • A medical degree (MD or equivalent) or a strong background in health sciences.
  • Master degree in epidemiology or health sciences.
  • Knowledge or experience in cancer epidemiology, public health, or biostatistics is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata) and familiarity with data analysis in population health.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for scientific writing and collaboration.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience working with cancer registries or similar datasets is an advantage
  • Excellent in English proficiency. French proficiency or the willingness to learn French would be an asset.
