Programme Manager - Transversal Translational Medicine


The Department of Transversal Translational Medicine (TTM) of the Luxembourg Institute of Health aims to foster biomedical and healthcare technology programmes by facilitating the ability of public and private stakeholders to work translationally, fostering national and international bed-to-bench-to-bed collaborations and thereby acting as a bridge from fundamental over clinical research into the real-world healthcare experience in integrated care networks. TTM represents and executes the translational medicine mission of the LIH by integrating clinical research into the bed-to-bench-to-bed cycle up to real world healthcare. It overlooks translational biomedical programmes across different diseases creating impact for patients and citizens, like the National Centre for Excellence in Research on Parkinson’s Disease (NCER-PD https://parkinson.lu) as well as innovative clinical trials.

The Programme Manager will be a core member of the Transversal Translational Medicine department. S/he will work closely with the Research and Strategy Specialist to give scientific advice, provide expertise to support translational, collaborative and multidisciplinary projects for fostering personalized medicine in the Luxembourgish ecosystem and abroad.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the coordinator and principal investigators in the scientific development, execution, monitoring, and reporting of the research program NCER-PD.
  • Oversee strategic planning and execution of the program NCER-PD.
  • Help to conceptualize, shape and drive initiatives in key strategic areas.
  • Serve as the contact person for the research program.
  • Act as an interface in internal and external stakeholder relationship management activities by contributing to the development and maintenance of the project network.
  • Ensure the development of scientific extensions to the research program, including international collaborations.
  • Leverage local, national, and international contacts to projects and initiatives with major strategic impact.
  • Be a key link across LIH activities connecting internal and external stakeholders to progress the implementation of the program at LIH and in Luxembourg.
  • Coordinate with LIH administrative groups for financial planning, legal framework, and others as needed.
  • Interact with the partners in charge of the dissemination and communication of the program to plan and contribute to the content of targeted communication outputs to stakeholders (including the general public).
  • Organize regular program meetings at all levels of the governance structure.
  • Provide guidance to other programs by sharing know-how and experiences.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Required

  • PhD in the field of Medical/Health, Biomedical, or Life Sciences or pharmacy or Biology/Biotechnology related sciences.
  • At least 4 years relevant job-related experience in project management in research or idustrial settings (including academia).
  • Ability to lead and support a wide array of projects.
  • Independent and multidisciplinary team working abilities, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with demonstrated ability to adapt tone and style for broad and diverse audiences.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and effectively organize, prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good negotiation skills and diplomatic skills to push projects firmly but diplomatically to get results.
  • Ability to work in a multinational environment and interact positively with advisors and regulatory authorities.
  • Language skills: Excellent oral and written skills in English. Additional good knowledge of German and French would be an added advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and communication tools.

Desirable

  • Experience in the domain of biomedical/clinical research.
  • Experience working in teams with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Experience in multi-center international research projects.
  • Knowledge of the clinical research working rules in Luxembourg and Europe (legal context, patient rights, data protection, etc.) and the international directives (International Conference on Harmonization - Good Clinical Practice: ICH-GCP) as well as the Clinical trials - Directive 2001/20/EC replaced by the Clinical Trials Regulation and biobanking recommendations and guidelines (ISBER; etc.) is desirable.
  • PRINCE2 or equivalent; experience in a PM tool (MS project or equivalent) is desirable.
