IT System Administrator


The IT System Administrator assists the IT Infrastructure Manager in ensuring the performance and high availability of LIH’s IT network and infrastructure. The candidate will provide support in the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems software and hardware and related infrastructure, and suggest better IT solutions in order to help internal clients (Administrative and Technical Services or heads of research projects) implement their objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • IT Systems Support: Provide level 2 and level 3 support for IT systems, diagnosing and resolving technical issues promptly to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
  • Server Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance, monitoring, and updates for servers to maintain optimal performance, security, and reliability.
  • Software Utilization: Learn and effectively support specialized software used by researchers, ensuring smooth usage and resolving user-related issues as needed.
  • Data Center Operations: Carry out hardware maintenance and troubleshooting within the data center, ensuring the availability and functionality of physical infrastructure.
  • Project Involvement: Actively participate in systems migration and improvement projects, collaborating with project teams to ensure successful planning and implementation.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Support the deployment and management of applications in containerized environments using Kubernetes and/or OpenShift, contributing to automation, scalability, and resilience of IT services.
  • Progressive Responsibility: Take on increasing responsibilities over time, including leading technical initiatives and managing projects as your expertise develops.

Key Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or in a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar IT infrastructure role.
  • Hands-on familiarity with storage systems, backup solutions, and infrastructure automation tools particularly Ansible. 
  • Experience working with open-source relational databases such as MariaDB, PostgreSQL and MSSQL.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux server environments and good knowledge of Windows environment.
  • Practical experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English and in French languages.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Linux Foundation, Red Hat) are considered an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, polyvalent team and take ownership of various technical domains.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support users and collaborate across teams.
  • A strong commitment to continuous learning, technical growth, and evolving responsibilities.
