Scientific Coordinator


At the Cardiovascular Research Unit, we implement interdisciplinary approaches at the convergence of translational research and precision medicine. We combine established and new methods with omic technologies, with a strong focus on transcriptomics and multiomics. Our main target diseases are diseases of the brain-heart axis, eg., Parkinson’s disease, stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiac arrest.
We are looking for a motivated and organized Scientific Coordinator to join our team. The successful applicant will play a key and central role in the CVRU team, by coordinating and conducting scientific and administrative tasks for all research projects.


Key Accountabilities

  • Manage the research projects: drafting, implementation, follow-up, planning and supervision of Master and PhD students.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders. Interact with national and international partners (e.g., customer interviews, investor meetings, scientific collaborators, patient associations).
  • Organize and coordinate administrative tasks.
  • Ensure compliance to and prepare ethics, GDPR, DPIA and regulatory requirements.
  • Project risk management.
  • Coordination of a multidisciplinary team and collaborative external partners on the projects.
  • Present the work and results during team meetings.
  • Work in tight partnership and provide regular updates to the CVRU group leader.
  • Support the CVRU group leader in the group development and in seeking external funding.
  • Write scientific publications and give oral and written presentations at internal and external conferences.
  • Evaluate research results for intellectual property rights generation and initiate a patent/spin-off procedure with the Science and Business Development Offices, whenever possible.
  • Participate in the societal dimension: dissemination of simplified research results to the general public (through articles, internal and external conferences, website, social media, World Heart Day, etc.).
  • Ensure project deadlines are met.


Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master or PhD in biology or related fields with a general background in a medical discipline, business administration, entrepreneurship, or a related field.
  • Knowledge in wet-lab work.
  • Proven experience in grant writing and project management.
  • Good knowledge of project financial and administrative management.
  • Experience in working with external partners in collaborative projects.
  • Experience in team management.
  • Rigor, motivation, organisation skills, writing skills, communication skills, conciseness, sense of priority and ability to work with others.
  • Good negotiation and diplomatic skills to advance projects effectively.
  • Ability to work in a multinational environment and interact positively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Autonomy in organizing work, proactive attitude.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, autonomy, target and detail-oriented.
  • IT skills: Office, Outlook, project management tools, R.
  • Language skills: fluent command of English, knowledge of another language of the European Union is an asset.
