Post-Doctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics


The Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) is looking for a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics. The focus is to support Horizon Europe-funded MARKOPOLO project with data management, multi-omics data analysis, data integration and interpretation. The researcher will be the contact point for the project partners, will take care about data and their quality, adapt the pipelines, develop methods for data integration and bioinformatic interpretation of the finding. The person will be integrated in the Bioinformatics and AI Unit (Department of Medical Informatics) and the Multiomics Data Science Research Group (Department of Cancer Research).

Key Accountabilities

  • Together with the supervisor, ensure project deliverables in the data-oriented work packages of MARKOPOLO project,
  • Help establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Data Management Plan (DMP) for multi-omics data,
  • Ensure data accuracy by reviewing datasets, identifying and correcting biases and inconsistencies,
  • Perform statistical and computational analyses of existing and newly generated transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data,
  • Identify molecular markers and biological pathways linked to pollution exposure and disease risk using advanced bioinformatics methods,
  • Develop and apply data-driven matrix factorization, network analysis, and machine learning approaches to integrate multi-omics data,
  • Present research findings through research publications, conference presentations, and contributions to public databases, ensuring FAIR data principles compliance.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related field,
  • Previous experience working with multi-omics data and especially data integration,
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics software and  scripting languages (R, Python) is required,
  • Knowledge and practical experience in statistics and data science in application to biology,
  • Knowledge of gene pathway analysis and gene regulatory networks,
  • Experience in scientific software development is an asset,
  • Knowledge of databases is an asset,
  • Ability to run tasks at HPC and knowledge of GIT is desirable,
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and dissemination of findings,
  • Understanding of ethical considerations, data privacy, and compliance in the context of bioinformatics research.
