Biorepository Team Leader


The Biorepository Team Leader manages the Biorepository team. S/he is responsible for logistics, handling and documentation of all samples entering, stored and exiting IBBL. S/he is also responsible for the biorepository area, its equipment, organization, tidiness and compliance with quality system requirements. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure the setup and operation of biorepository activities, and perform the full range of operations: Collection kit design and production / Consumables ordering and stock management for biorepository / Incoming quality control of specimens and samples / Recording of all sample movements in LIMS or other tools / Management of content of biorepository storage devices including inventories / Sample retrieval and destruction / Packing and shipments in compliance with applicable regulations / Management of BioRepository equipments (e.g. Freezers, LN2 tanks) / In collaboration with the Head of Biorepository, ensure that the temperature monitoring system configuration by the system administrator is correct and issue change control requests as appropriate
  • Manage operations of the Biorepository Operations Team. It entails, but not restricted to, planning the activities within the team and ensuring follow-ups.
  • In case of workload peaks, manage  temporary staff 
  • In collaboration with the Head of Biorepository ensure the compliance with QMS of biorepository operations and of equipment under the Biorepository responsibility ; document all processes accordingly
  • Train and develop the Biorepository team and perform staff appraisals
  • Participate in on-going research and development of novel Biobanking techniques, including efficiency gains
  • In collaboration with the Head of Biorepository, communicate with the staff in clinical and research sites to ensure safety and regulatory compliance, quality control and a smooth transfer of samples and data
  • Communicate directly with key clients on operational subjects
  • Approve purchases up to the specified limit
  • Perform other related duties as required, such as: development of procedures related to Biorepository operations and equipment.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree ideally in Logistics (or related field) OR in Biology
  • Min 5 years of relevant job experience
  • On top of the Microsoft suite, proficient in the use of computers relative to technical equipment 
  • Adaptability and rigour 
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Solid Team leadership experience
  • Language skills: Fluent written and spoken English. Additional fluency in French or German is considered as an asset.
  • Previous work experience in either:  an accredited environment; a blood bank or clinical laboratory or a Logistics company would be considered as an asset
