Deputy Head, Cancer Surveillance Branch at International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization
The lecture “Women, Power, and Cancer” by Dr Isabelle Soerjomataram explores the complex relationship between women’s societal roles and their experiences with cancer, considering the various biases and discrimination they face based on factors like age, race, and socio-economic status. Drawing
from detailed research, the lecture will highlight the profound global effects of cancer on women and the potential for reducing premature deaths with timely prevention and quality care. The session adopts an intersectional feminist lens, pushing for changes in the healthcare system to better address the unique challenges women face. It emphasizes the importance of including gender considerations in cancer policies to promote a healthcare environment where
