On May 17th, the Luxembourgish non-profit association “Schëfflenger Kriibshëllef” made a second generous donation to the LIH Department of Cancer Research (DoCR) to support the acquisition of new laboratory equipment for cancer research.

The EUR 6,000 cheque was handed over to Dr Anna Golebiewska, leader of the NORLUX Neuro-Oncology Laboratory, and Dr Pascale Baden, project coordinator at DoCR, during the General Assembly of the non-profit association based in Schifflange. Dr Baden was also given the opportunity to present cancer research activities at LIH, focusing on the role of preclinical models in supporting the development of personalised medicine treatments for cancer patients.

The generous donation will allow the researchers to purchase a new next-generation stereo microscope, which will enable the examination and selection of cancer tissue and 3D cultures in sterile conditions. The donation will also allow the upgrade of a fluorescent microscope with a new camera and software to generate high-resolution 3D images of tumour tissue and organs.

We are very grateful to Schëfflenger Kriibshëllef for their generous support, particularly considering that it is their second donation to our research activities since their establishment.

states Dr Golebiewska.

Indeed, the donation follows an initial endowment of EUR 2,500 in May 2021.

Schëfflenger Kriibshëllef is a local non-profit association based in Schifflange, founded in March 2020 to raise funds in support of cancer patients and cancer research in Luxembourg.
