New Leadership for the Luxembourg Institute of Health

External Members Appointed to the Board of Directors for 2025-2029 Term

The Luxembourg government has appointed external members to the Luxembourg Institute of Health’s Board of Directors, with Ana Sanchez-Guevara Sanchez as President and Xavier Poos as Vice President.


The Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) enters a new chapter of governance as the government has confirmed the external members of its Board of Directors for a five-year term starting January 1, 2025. The appointments were made on the joint proposal of the Minister for Research and Higher Education and the Minister of Health and Social Security.

The restructured Board reflects a balance of continuity and fresh perspectives, including both reappointments and new members. Key appointments include:

  • Lysiane Back (former Vice President of BCEE, Luxembourg) – reappointment.
  • Rudi Balling (Senior Professor, University of Bonn, Germany) – new appointment.
  • Françoise Berthet (President, National Observatory of Health, Luxembourg) – reappointment.
  • Alexandre Bisdorff (Specialist Neurologist, Luxembourg) – new appointment.
  • Carole Brueckler (Project Manager, Ministry of Economy, Luxembourg) – reappointment.
  • Alain Kohl (Professor, University of Glasgow, UK) – reappointment.
  • Céline Marchand (Attorney at Law, Luxembourg) – new appointment.
  • Xavier Poos (Deputy Administrative Director, Directorate of Health, Luxembourg) – reappointment.
  • Ana Sanchez-Guevara Sanchez (Associate Medical Director, Robert Schuman Hospitals, Luxembourg) – new appointment.

Additional representatives on the Board include Jérôme Paggetti, leader of the Tumor Stroma Interactions group from the Department of Cancer Research (DoCR) and LIH’s Conciliation Council, as well as Olivier Keunen, leader of the In Vivo Imaging group of the DoCR, as staff delegation president.

The Board has elected Ana Sanchez-Guevara Sanchez as its President and Xavier Poos as Vice President, signaling a forward-looking leadership approach. Pierre Misteri, Advisor at the Ministry for Research and Higher Education, will continue as Government Commissioner for the LIH.

This announcement sets the stage for the LIH to continue advancing cutting-edge health research while fostering strategic international collaborations.
