Luxembourg researcher among the globe’s most highly cited scientists

LIH scientist Dr Torsten Bohn secures his place among the world’s most highly cited researchers for the sixth year in a row

Dr Torsten Bohn, along with four other researchers from Luxembourg, has been recognized in Clarivate’s 2024 “Highly Cited Researchers” report for his impactful work in Agricultural Sciences, marking his sixth consecutive year in this prestigious global ranking.


Clarivate™ recently unveiled its annual “Highly Cited Researchers” report, recognizing global leaders in scientific innovation whose work ranks in the top 1% by citations in the Web of Science™. This year, five Luxembourg researchers have earned a place in this prestigious ranking, reaffirming the nation’s growing influence in the global scientific community.

Dr Torsten Bohn, Group Leader of the Nutrition and Health Research (NutriHealth) team at the Luxembourg Institute of Health’s (LIH) Department of Precision Health (DoPH), has been listed for the sixth consecutive year in the Agricultural Sciences category. Over the past decade, Dr Bohn has authored almost 270 papers indexed in the Web of Science™ and garnered close to 15,000 citations. His research explores the bioavailability of micronutrients and secondary plant bioactives, as well as the links between dietary patterns, inflammation, oxidative stress, and related diseases.

Being recognized as a highly cited researcher for the sixth consecutive year since 2019 is a testament to the sustained impact and consistency of our work within the NutriHealth team on a global scale. It underscores the importance of international collaboration and the relevance of our research, which addresses critical health issues related to nutrition, including cardiometabolic diseases, obesity, and cancer. This recognition further reinforces LIH’s position as a leading centre of scientific innovation and highlights the value of our ongoing efforts in advancing public health

Dr Bohn is joined in this year’s list by four researchers from the University of Luxembourg. These include Dr Almut Heinken, recognized in the Cross-Field category, Dr Michael Heneka, also in the Cross-Field category and affiliated with both the University of Luxembourg and the University of Massachusetts Worcester, Dr Alexandre Tkatchenko, featured in the Cross-Field category, and Prof Paul Wilmes, likewise acknowledged in the Cross-Field category.
