As part of the Plan National Cancer (PNC2), the LIH is sharing the first preliminary results of its national Colive Cancer survey, focusing on the experiences of 100 women with breast cancer.

The survey, a key element in the mission to continuously improve cancer care, gathered responses from 100 women with an average age of 50. The findings reveal that over 90% of participants reside in Luxembourg, with two-thirds having completed treatment, while one-third are still in the midst of their cancer journey.

When asked to rate the communication of their diagnosis and the support they received, respondents gave an average score of 8 out of 10. This strong result highlights the positive perception of Luxembourg’s healthcare system in guiding breast cancer patients through their treatment. Furthermore, 80% of participants felt satisfied with the information provided by their healthcare teams, and a third reported that they were completely satisfied.

However, the survey did catch a key area for improvement—side effects. Most respondents indicated that they wanted more detailed information on this topic, suggesting a potential gap in patient education that healthcare professionals in Luxembourg could address.

In terms of additional support, psychologists were the top resource offered to over 80% of patients, followed closely by physiotherapists and sports programs, showing the importance of a holistic approach to cancer care.

Survey participants also shared advice for those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Their messages were clear: “Trust your healthcare team,” “Stay positive,” and “Be cautious of online information.”

Further analysis will be performed to highlight potential disparities in the same aspect, comparing the breast cancer population and those with other cancer types, to identify disparities and enhance personalized care. To strengthen the findings and ensure they represent the broader cancer population, Colive Cancer continues to recruit participants.
