ACADI’s Autumn Updates

08 November 2024 4minutes

Welcome back to the ACADI newsletter! We are pleased to bring you the latest updates and achievements from ACADI. The past few weeks have been eventful, with significant contributions from our team across several areas. Here is a summary of our recent activities:

Board appointments

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Sophie Pilleron has been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Society for Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) and appointed as co-chair of the SIOG Nursing, Allied Health, and Scientists Group. These esteemed positions recognise Dr. Pilleron’s commitment and contributions to advancing geriatric oncology. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved achievement.

Conferences

Our team has been active on the conference circuit, where we had the opportunity to engage with fellow researchers and present our ongoing work.

International Conference for Communication in Healthcare (September 9–13, Zaragoza): Dr. India Pinker served on the planning committee as co-lead of the scientific committee and was featured in an expert symposium on empathy in medical education as well as patient and public involvement. The conference was praised as a showcase of all the advancements being made in healthcare communication.

SIOG Conference (October 17–19, Montreal): The ACADI team attended the annual SIOG conference in Montreal, showcasing our research in geriatric oncology. Our team presented three posters, and Dr. Pinker co-chaired the inaugural session on mental health in geriatric oncology care. This conference provided valuable insights and collaborations that will inform our future projects in the field.

ThinkPink Guide Launch

On the 9th of October, ACADI attended the ThinkPink Guide launch, a significant event focused on the role of the patient voice when providing support during breast cancer care. This event and guidebook underscores ThinkPink’s impactful work in patient support and resources, including initiatives for men’s support groups such as Soul Talk. We look forward to future collaborations with ThinkPink to further enhance patient care. If you would like to have a look at the Guide, there are several at the LIH site in Strassen or please reach out to ThinkPink.

ATTRACT & PEARL Event with FNR

The ACADI team joined the FNR event for ATTRACT and PEARL fellows on the 2nd of October, where we had the opportunity to network with other fellowship teams. This event fostered valuable discussions on the future of scientific funding and grant opportunities in Luxembourg, allowing us to explore and discuss new avenues for research development.
