1cFlex accepted for CORE 2021 funding

The research project 1cFlex “Understanding the Flexibility of 1C metabolism and its role during metastatic dissemination of cancer cells” got accepted for FNR CORE & Fondation Cancer funding!

CORE is the central funding programme of the FNR, with a prime objective to strengthen the scientific quality of Luxembourg’s public research in the country’s research priorities adopted by the Government on 20 December 2019. In the frame of this multi-annual thematic research program, CORE projects should be innovative and of high scientific quality. All projects are peer reviewed by international reviewers.

The project 1cflex, investigated by Johannes Meiser, PhD (Luxembourg Institute of Health) & Elisabeth Letellier, PhD (Universität Luxemburg), was among the projects retained for funding in the FNR CORE Call 2021 and co-funding with Fondation Cancer. This project, entitled Understanding the Flexibility of 1C metabolism and its role during metastatic dissemination of cancer cells, aims to better understand the mechanisms that determine when, how and why cancer cells metastasise. When tumours begin to metastasise, life expectancy plummets and clinical treatment options are limited. Researchers have identified how metabolism can be therapeutically targeted to prevent cancer cells from adapting, thereby preventing tumours from escaping and reducing metastatic spread.
