Laboratory Technician

The Translational Cancer Immunogenomics Research Group, led by Dr. Ángel Álvarez-Prado at the Department of Cancer Research of LIH, is currently looking for a full time Laboratory Technician. Recently established, the research group focuses on understanding how genetic alterations in cancer cells shape the immune microenvironment of brain metastatic tumors, with the long-term goal of developing novel personalized immunotherapies for cancer patients with brain metastasis.

We work at the interface between immunology and cancer biology and combine the use of preclinical models of cancer and human samples with state-of-the-art technologies to profile the immune microenvironment of brain metastatic tumors upon different therapeutic interventions. We are looking for a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to perform general laboratory housekeeping and maintenance tasks and provide experimental support to the lab. The candidate will join a young, creative and stimulating environment, with opportunities for professional growth and direct involvement in research projects including national and international collaboration partners.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out experiments relevant to different projects within the research group.
  • Lead technical optimization projects.
  • Analyze and report results and discuss results with the Principal Investigator and other lab members.
  • Learn new laboratory techniques as required.
  • Establish new Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) to be validated by the Principal Investigator.
  • Prepare stock reagents.
  • Keep reagents and SOP databases updated and find solutions to manage information efficiently as needed.
  • Share technical knowledge with lab members to perform experiments following validated SOPs.
  • Monitor stocks of consumable materials and optimize purchases (reception and storage of reagents, generate purchase orders, market analysis on research products, meet sales representatives, etc.).
  • Perform technical troubleshooting and propose solutions together with the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications & Key Skills

  • Laboratory Technician diploma or alternative qualification (e.g. B.Sc./M.Sc. degree in biomedical sciences).
  • At least 2 years hands-on experience working in the fields of cancer biology and/or immunology.
  • Certified training on animal experimentation and welfare corresponding to the requirements defined
    by the EU Directive 2010/63/EU and the Réglement Grand-Ducal of the 11th January 2013 (FELASA or equivalent).
  • Technical expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture (incl. transfection/transduction), immunofluorescence, flow cytometry and handling of experimental mouse models.
  • Knowledge in flow cytometry, imaging and/or next-generation sequencing bioinformatic analyses will be a plus.
  • Skills: Rigor, efficiency, reliability, motivation, team player, vocation towards service, willingness to learn.
  • Fluent command of English (written and spoken) is a must.
