Bioinformatician


The Department of Medical Informatics at the Luxembourg Institute of Health is looking for a passionate bioinformatician, medical informatician or software engineer with strong interest in biomedical research. The focus is to support LIH’s efforts to develop tools to enable cancer research on large internal and European data repositories.  

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and maintain data spaces for research and analysis.
  • Develop dashboards using platforms similar to cBioPortal to visualize complex biological data.
  • Contribute to federated data spaces, enabling secure data storage and model sharing for federated learning.
  • Assist in creating internal dashboards to monitor and analyze existing data.
  • Utilize database mining tools to annotate sequencing data.
  • Process medical, clinical, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency, following standards and best practices in compliance with GDPR.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in bioinformatics, medical informatics, data science or software engineering.
  • Proficiency in command-line scripting and Linux environments.
  • Experience with SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with containers (e.g.,Singularity, Docker) and computational pipelining tools (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake).
  • Experience with Python (Flask), Java or R is considered a strong plus.
  • Excellent level in English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration.
