CANBIO2: Training & Development
Career Development
CANBIO2 ensures an optimal training environment in modern facilities with on-the-job research training, quality supervision and regular project progress monitoring. Moreover, the program includes transferable skill training, support in career development, scientific and annual PhD retreats.
Doctoral candidates will be enrolled at the UL and required to obtain a minimum of 20 ECTS during their 4 years of PhD studies. They will benefit from a large general training offer at UL and LIH e.g. on research ethics, project management, science communication, entrepreneurship or scientific writing.
CANBIO2-specific training and activities will be provided by the consortium. In particular, PhD candidates will attend scientific lecture series with renowned international speakers from the cancer field to keep up-to-date with research advances, participate in “clinical dive” events to exchange with clinical experts and take tailored training in bioinformatics and cancer biology given by the principal investigators.
Newly starting doctoral candidates will get an induction by their institution and the university. They will be welcomed at the National PhD Welcome Day. They will also be invited to present their work at the yearly Life Sciences PhD Days. Active participation to international conferences is encouraged.
Next to career counselling services offered at UL, CANBIO2 will organise career orientation workshops to prepare the PhD candidates for their next career step, be it in academia or in industry. Support on doctoral training-related matters is given by the UL Office of Doctoral Studies and the LIH PhD training coordinator.
