The Académie Lorraine des Sciences, dedicated to the promotion of science to the public, welcomes Luxembourg Institute of Health researcher Dr Brice Appenzeller.

The Académie Lorraine des Sciences is a scientific academy that was founded in 1828 in Strasbourg. It is composed of a maximum of 50 members, usually academics or researchers, which are sub-divided into scientific disciplines according to their expertise. Since its creation, the academy has been committed to maximising the public engagement with scientific topics, a feat that is expressed even in their motto: “Mettre en lumière les progrès des Sciences, promouvoir leur diffusion et contribuer ainsi à leur rayonnment” ( – Shine light on scientific progress, promote its diffusion and thus contribute to its radiance).

In a recent development, Dr Brice Appenzeller, Group Leader of the Human Biomonitoring Research Unit at the Luxembourg Institute of Health and Associate Professor adjunct University of Luxembourg, was appointed member of the Académie Lorraine des Sciences.

The scientific world has this reputation for being inaccessible and hard to understand, but it doesn’t have to be this way. I hope that this new appointment will give me more tools to show the world the extraordinary things that can only be revealed with scientific disciplines, to make science accessible to the many instead of the few. Only then will the public experience the excitement of a new discovery,

commented Dr Appenzeller.
